| EasyHotel in Larnaca
Earlier this year, low-cost
airline easyJet began operating flights to both Larnaca and Paphos
airports from London Gatwick. The company went on to open its first
easyHotel in Larnaca in May and recently, a reporter from the Cyprus
Mail went to stay at the budget hotel and see for himself what it
was like.
EasyHotel Larnaca is the first easyHotel ‘in the sun’, according
to the company website. “Functional, cheap and bright” seems to
be the verdict of the Mail reporter, as well as being in the perfect
place for easy airport access as it’s just a 15-minute drive away.
Even better for a budget holiday break, is that it’s just a 5-minute
walk from Phoinikoudes beach, the main beach in Larnaca. It’s also
within walking distance of most of the top Larnaca attractions,
which include the Medieval Fort and the ancient site of Kition.
A little further away - around 5km - is the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque
where, in winter, you can see the breathtaking Larnaca Salt Lake.
Like easyJet flights, easyHotel Larnaca is relatively inexpensive
with the basic room costing €25 for a single room and €35 for a
double. Anything else – and we mean anything else – even a TV remote
- costs extra. There’s no food or drinks available but the minimalist
approach is proving popular with those who like the no-frills package
and simply want to use the hotel as a base or a place to sleep before
an early flight.
It’s pretty difficult to miss the 56-room hotel because it’s relentlessly
orange, both outside and in, but perhaps that’s to be expected.
As the Cyprus Mail reporter noted, “A large orange pillar dominates
the foyer, the doors are Easy orange and emblazoned with the web
address, orange vending machines sit on the walls - even the minimalist
pictures on the bedroom walls carry the Easy motif.”
However, the rooms and en-suite bathrooms are spotlessly clean,
air-conditioned and functional. The rooms have “quirky wall-mounted
units which incorporate an armchair,” and the bathrooms are, you’ve
guess it, very orange indeed – especially when you have to get up
early for a flight. They’re also a bit on the small side, “slightly
larger than average aeroplane toilet-cum-solarium” with a shower
added.
The Cyprus Mail reporter concluded that overall he was impressed
with the cleanliness, simplicity and functionality of the place,
calling it comfortable but basic and this is reflected in the cost.
If this sounds like just the kind of thing you need, either for
business or pleasure.
